Some Local Contraindications:
Meaning massage can be beneficial on the other parts of the body not suffering, not in pain nor affected by a common ailment. Therefore any area that feels painful! any acute stage of an injury or inflammed areas are to be avoided.
for example skin ailment are warts, herpes, bruises, Impetigo, athlete's foot, skin cancer, weeping skin.
That's just some local contraindications obviously massage can help most ailments apart from those particular cases when you'll probably be better off staying in bed, see a doctor or in hosptital, but it's good to be aware of what you can or cannot do with massage.
Some Total Contraindications:
-First 3 months of pregnancy and the following 10 days after birth.
-Deep Vein Thrombosis for the first 6 months.
-After a stroke or heart attack for the first 6 months.
-Meningitis, brain tumor and any condition that requires hospitalisation.
-Acute stages of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Common colds or any other acute stages of common ailments.
-Osteoporotic areas.
-Some skin conditions: Scabies, Head lice, spreading Ringworm.
-Pneumonia, pulmonary TB, acute urinary infections.
